India’s top sports personalities, including Olympic heroes Neeraj Chopra and PV Sindhu, and cricket superstar Rohit Sharma, have come out in strong support of the country’s armed forces following precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan.
The armed forces launched Operation Sindoor on Wednesday, targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including the strongholds of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke.
The strikes were in response to last month’s Pahalgam massacre, where 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed. Pakistan retaliated by targeting 15 Indian cities, prompting India to swiftly thwart the attacks, including drone and missile strikes in Jammu and Pathankot.
Voices of Support from Sporting Stars
Rohit Sharma, writing on X, praised the armed forces:
“With every passing moment, with every decision taken I feel extremely proud of our Indian Army, Indian Airforce & Indian Navy. Our warriors are standing tall for our nation’s pride. It’s important for every Indian to be responsible and refrain from spreading or believing any fake news. Stay safe, everyone! #OperationSindoor #JaiHind.”
Neeraj Chopra, a double Olympic medallist, echoed the sentiment:
“We are proud of our Brave Indian Armed Forces who are fighting for our nation against terrorism. Let’s do our part and make sure to follow guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety during this time.”
PV Sindhu, two-time Olympic medallist, added:
“To the brave men and women of the Indian Armed Forces — your courage, discipline, and sacrifice are the soul of our nation. In moments like Operation Sindoor, we’re reminded of the silent strength and selfless service that keep our tricolour flying high. India stands with you. Jai Hind.”
Cricket Fraternity Joins In
The escalating tensions also impacted sports, with Thursday’s IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala called off due to air raid alerts. The BCCI has since suspended the league indefinitely.
Former opener Virender Sehwag did not hold back his criticism of Pakistan:
“War has been chosen by Pakistan when they had an opportunity to keep quiet. They have escalated to save its terrorist assets, speaks so much about them. Our forces will reply in the most appropriate manner, a manner Pakistan will never forget.”
Former India batter Shikhar Dhawan also expressed solidarity:
“Respect to our brave hearts for protecting our borders with such strength and stopping the drone attack on Jammu. India stands strong. Jai Hind.”
World Cup-winner Kris Srikkanth and former wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel both urged the nation to rally behind the armed forces, calling for unity and prayers.
Heightened Security and National Alert
Security has been intensified across the country, especially at airports, after Pakistan’s retaliation attempts. Authorities have called for public vigilance and urged citizens to refrain from spreading rumors or fake news.
As the situation unfolds, the nation stands united behind its armed forces, with the collective voice of India’s sporting icons amplifying the message of resilience and solidarity.
